This paper analyses the Adizes Institute’s regional database to demonstrate that managers systematically delay consultant engagement relative to the lifecycle stage at which intervention would be most effective. The study provides quantitative support for Adizes’s theoretical prescription that proactive intervention during the prime stage is more effective than reactive engagement during aristocracy or early bureaucracy.
