What Can We Learn from Babies?

I was wondering why we love babies and toddlers. We totally become smitten and emotional with them. I do. Very much so. And it is not because they carry my bloodstream. I love all babies. Of any color, religion, or nationality. They all fascinate me.

I love them, one, because they are real. Authentic. They live in the present. No past, no future. It is all “now.” So, they have no agenda. They are real.

Second, they do not try to manage us. They express emotions with no rules, no past decisions they regret that lead to their present behavior.

Next, they are vulnerable. They do not threaten us in any way. Their vulnerability makes us want to protect them.

And last, they feel us. Their behavior is not driven by some thinking process and deliberations on how to serve themselves the best, no manipulations. Because they feel us, we turn our best behavior on.

So what? Come to think of it, to be loved, follow the baby:

Allow yourself to be
vulnerable,
be present,
have no hidden agenda, and
feel the person you are with.

Much to learn. From babies too.
