The Source of Inspiration

Albert Einstein’s profound connection to music, particularly his violin playing, significantly influenced his problem-solving abilities in physics. He often turned to music to stimulate his creative intuition, allowing complex scientific ideas to emerge naturally.

Einstein’s engagement with music went beyond mere relaxation; it was integral to his cognitive processes. He believed that his scientific discoveries were driven by intuition, with music acting as the catalyst. He once remarked, “The theory of relativity occurred to me by intuition, and music is the driving force behind this intuition.”

Archimedes shouted his famous “Eureka!” while sitting in a bathtub. Newton discovered the theory of gravity while sitting under a tree, watching an apple fall. I get many of my insights while meditating.

Is there an explanation for this phenomenon? Let me try.

What is the common denominator of music, meditation, and sitting in a bathtub? We are not thinking. We are relaxed. We surrender to the music, to nature, to the pleasure of a hot tub, or to the universe in our meditation.

Einstein got lost in his music. I know the feeling; it happens to me when I play my accordion. Newton, may I suggest, became so enchanted with nature that he felt he was just a part of it, not its master.

We become open to being integrated with the forces of the universe. It is like when we stop talking, we can start hearing. Or when we stop thinking, we can start feeling. We stop processing the problem with our brain, and we are open to something bigger than ourselves.

You cannot think, or do, and feel at the same time! (A) and (P) are incompatible with (I). You can have both when the problem is a minor one, but the more complex the problem, the more difficult it is to think and feel at the same time.

And what happens when we think, versus when we feel?

When we think, we believe we are the center of the universe and should be able to solve the problem. When we surrender, we let a more powerful force deal with the problem for us.

In my new book, soon to be published, “There is a God, But Not The One We Pray To”, I suggest that what we call God is Energy with values instructing how the universe should operate. When we surrender ourselves and unite ourselves with that energy, weather by playing or listening to music or meditating, we are ready to receive kind of ultimate knowledge. A knowledge that is managing the universe. Some call its God.

Just Thinking,
